New York-based synth-pop revivalist Morgan Z is releasing Elemental Themes, his first album as Chrome Canyon, on October 9 on Stones Throw.
Today he’s released “mix tape i” – made for The Quietus, who writes: he’s taken some time off from the x-ray specs factory and made us this mix, which bristles with enough vintage analogue synths to make Giorgio Moroder weep. Moroder’s on there in fact, along with Tangerine Dream, Yellow Magic Orchestra and Ashra, and a potent closing one-two of Al Green and Donna Summer.

Chrome Canyon - Branches

Brooklyn synthesizer maestro Chrome Canyon has just released his DIY video for “Branches,” a tune lifted off his forthcoming Elemental Themes LP. The video—which was shot, edited, and directed by the man himself—features a dream-like sequence of time-lapsed clouds moving rapidly across a purple sky (the effect was apparently inspired by the seminal 1982 film Koyaanisqatsi). The images pair well with Chrome Canyon’s overtly cinematic, ’80s-inspired tune, one that is clearly more futuristic than its title implies. – says XLR8R
